Alongside the print media, a whole plethora of other sectors clamor for attention, including the electronic media and oral as much as written utterances. This calls for perspectives no longer limited to traditional stylistics and text linguistics but extending to sociolinguistics, conversation analysis, pragmatics, LSP research and translation studies. This situation shows the necessity for discussion on the present state of research and future research issues in connection with style as a semiotic, cultural, and social phenomenon.
